We’re pleased to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a state-of-the-art, non-invasive treatment option for older teens and adults facing depression and related conditions. If medication hasn’t worked or isn’t a good fit, TMS may be the alternative you’ve been searching for.

TMS uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. There’s no surgery, no medication, and no downtime, just science-backed support to help the brain work better.

This therapy is:

  • Personalized: Each treatment is tailored to target the unique brain patterns of the individual.
  • Non-pharmacological: TMS does not circulate through the bloodstream or affect the whole body like medication.
  • Low risk: Most people report minimal side effects and experience improved mood and mental clarity.
  • FDA-cleared: Approved for treating Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in cases where traditional approaches fall short.

At AB Psych, we believe mental health care should evolve with the needs of real people. TMS is a groundbreaking new way to meet those needs in a way that is safe and effective.

What Psychological evaluations can help with

We assess for a range of developmental and learning-related conditions, including:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD is one of the most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental conditions in children and teens and also the most misunderstood. It presents in three ways: inattentive, hyperactive/impulsive or a combination of both. However, behind every label is a real child with real struggles and real strengths.

At AB Psych, we approach ADHD evaluations with care and clarity. We look beyond surface behaviors to understand the full picture, confirming symptoms show up in more than one setting, such as home and school. Just as important, we rule out other possible explanations like anxiety, learning differences or emotional distress, ensuring families get answers that are accurate and meaningful, not rushed or generic.

By getting the diagnosis right, we help families move forward with confidence. We achieve this through tailored strategies and support that meets children where they are at, so they can become the individuals they’re meant to be.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how children perceive the world, process information and connect with others. While every child is different, many experience challenges in social interaction, communication and flexibility. Common signs may include repetitive behaviors, sensitivity to sounds or textures, and a strong preference for routines.

At AB Psych, we believe understanding a child’s brain is the first step toward empowering their growth. That's why comprehensive ASD evaluations include clinical observation as well as insights from parents and caregivers who know the child best. Together, we aim not just to identify differences but to light a path forward, grounded in dignity, respect and meaningful support.

Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD)

Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD) is characterized by significant limitations in both intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviors. This includes the skills needed for everyday life such as communication and self-care.

At AB Psych, our evaluations for IDD combine standardized cognitive assessments with detailed insights into how a child navigates daily tasks at home, in school and in the community. We don’t just measure abilities, we seek to understand the whole child, their environment and the support systems that surround them.

By identifying these challenges early and accurately, we empower families, educators and care teams to build thoughtful, individualized plans that promote growth, independence and dignity at every stage of life.

Specific Learning Disorder (SLD)

Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), often referred to as a learning disability, involves persistent challenges in core academic skills. Most commonly this includes reading, writing and mathematics. These difficulties are not due to lack of effort or intelligence, but rather the way a child’s brain processes information.

At AB Psych, we use targeted assessments to identify learning patterns and pinpoint areas of struggle. These evaluations help determine if a student’s academic difficulties meet the criteria for SLD and what kind of support will make a difference, whether that’s specialized instruction or a more individualized learning environment.

SLD can affect a child’s confidence as much as their grades. That’s why we approach every evaluation with sensitivity and a belief that, with the right support, every learner can thrive. Understanding the challenge is the first step to unlocking their potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any side effects to TMS therapy?
Side effects are not common but may include mild headache or nausea. These symptoms usually resolve quickly, and unlike antidepressants TMS does not cause weight gain, sleep issues or emotional blunting. Always report any side effects to your therapist.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we work with many different health insurers, including: IEHP, Aetna, Anthem, Blue Shield of California, Cigna (Evernorth), Magellan Health, Medi-Cal, Optum, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, and UnitedHealthcare.
How long does TMS take?
We offer two protocols: Express TMS (about 3 minutes) and standard TMS (19 to 37 minutes). Sessions occur five times a week for six weeks. There’s no downtime, so your child can return to regular activities right after.
Is my child a candidate for TMS?
TMS is not our first step for children. Our clinicians will review your child’s medical history, current symptoms and previous treatment responses to determine suitability. TMS may be appropriate for older teens in some cases. It is available on prescription only.
What does TMS feel like?
A TMS patient sits in a chair while a device rests lightly on their head. They'll hear a clicking sound and feel a light tapping sensation. Many watch TV or read during the session. The experience is generally well-tolerated.
Is TMS covered by insurance?
Yes, most insurance providers do cover TMS, but coverage can vary. We’ll help you navigate your plan and provide documentation as needed. It's best to check directly with your insurance company for specific policy details.
