At AB Psych, we understand that for some individuals, psychiatric medication can be a key part of their healing journey. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, ADHD or another condition, the right medication, paired with ABA or other support, can create the stability needed for progress.

Our approach to medication is personal and always grounded in collaboration. We begin with a comprehensive evaluation to understand the full picture; We ask, What symptoms are present? How they affect daily life?  And whether medication may be an appropriate part of treatment? We also consider medical history, current challenges and family input.

We don’t believe in a ‘quick fix’ or one-size-fits-all prescriptions. Medication is most effective when used alongside therapeutic support, helping reduce symptoms so individuals can fully engage in therapy, school, work or relationships.

‍

Throughout the process, our clinicians monitor how each medication is working, adjusting as needed and answering your questions along the way. Our goal is to support long-term wellness, not just manage symptoms, but help light the path to a life that feels more steady and whole.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is medication management?
Medication management is the process of evaluating, prescribing, and monitoring psychiatric medications to help manage mental health symptoms. Your provider works with you to determine which medications and dosages are appropriate for your individual needs.
Who can benefit from medication management?
Medication management may be appropriate for individuals experiencing symptoms related to depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. Your provider will determine whether medication may be beneficial based on your symptoms and treatment goals.
What happens during my first medication management appointment?
Your provider will review your medical and mental health history, current symptoms, medications and supplements, and previous treatments. You’ll also have an opportunity to discuss your concerns and treatment goals. Together, you’ll develop a personalized treatment plan.
How often will I need medication management appointments?
The frequency of appointments depends on your individual needs, treatment plan, and how you respond to medication. Appointments may be more frequent when starting or changing medication and may become less frequent once your treatment is stable.
How long does it take for psychiatric medication to work?
The timeline varies depending on the medication, condition being treated, and individual. Some medications may begin improving certain symptoms relatively quickly, while others can take several weeks to reach their full effect. Your provider will discuss what you can expect from your specific medication.
What if I experience side effects?
Let your provider know about any new or concerning side effects. Do not stop or change your medication on your own unless instructed by your healthcare provider. Your provider can help determine whether a dosage adjustment, medication change, or other approach may be appropriate.
Will my medication management be personalized to me?
Yes. Treatment is individualized based on your symptoms, medical and mental health history, previous treatment experiences, current medications, and personal treatment goals. Your provider will work with you to find an approach that is appropriate for your needs.
Do you offer medication management through telehealth?
Yes. AB Psych Consulting offers medication management through telehealth, allowing you to meet with your provider conveniently from the comfort and privacy of your own home. Telehealth appointments provide an opportunity to discuss your symptoms, medications, treatment progress, and any questions or concerns with your provider.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we work with many different health insurers, including: IEHP, Aetna, Anthem, Blue Shield of California, Cigna (Evernorth), Magellan Health, Medi-Cal, Optum, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, and UnitedHealthcare.
